A Glimpse into Our History:

Originally founded as a public enterprise, Ethiopia Tannery became a pivotal player in the leather industry through a technical cooperation agreement with Czechoslovakia. In 1973, during a change in government, it transitioned to government ownership, and later, in 1992, it shifted to private ownership under the esteemed Pittards plc from the United Kingdom.

Strategic Location and Expansion:

Nestled in Koka, approximately 90 kilometers southeast of Addis Ababa, our tannery boasts a strategic location near Modjo in the Oromia region. Since our establishment in 1968 EC, we’ve expanded our capacity, workforce, and product range. From processing 3000 pieces of skins initially, we now handle around 10,000 pieces of skin and 1000 pieces of hide.

Ethiopia Tannery specializes in crafting high-quality leather products, including shoe upper leather, garment leather, and industrial gloves. Our commitment to excellence has earned us a prominent place in the global market, exporting approximately 80% of our production to countries like Italy, the United Kingdom, China, India, and the United States. Renowned brands such as Adidas, Nike, and Huajan Shoe trust our craftsmanship.

Navigating the Future – Ethio-Glue Manufacturing:

As part of our strategic direction, Ethiopia Tannery is set to launch a new venture named “Ethio-Glue Manufacturing.” In the next 5 years, this business will co-reside within our current factory, marking a significant step toward diversification.
